Curacao has a natural deep water harbour that has made it an island of strategic importance over the last few centuries. Spain, France, Portugal and the Netherlands have all fought over this island and some fort remains can still be found. The deep water harbour has made Curacao an ideal place for Cruise Ship Tourism. The two opposite sides of the harbour are connected by a floating bridge called the "Queen ... Bridge". It float on pontoons and opens up by swinging all the way across the harbour, quite a spectacular event to watch - specially from the bridge while it is moving!
